What have you learned so far that you can apply in your instructional practice?
What goals are you still working toward?
I have learned a great deal of information from just researching and talking to other teachers. In addition, when watching our videos for our class I have been visiting some of the sites that are being mentioned. One site that was mentioned was Thinkquest.org. I have visited this site and will visit again because I think it will be another way to get my students communicating with others. I am continuing my search on ePals to find the ideal classroom to be ePals with because I am not sure how many students I will have next year and how involved I want the experience to be. I don't want to overwhelm my students or myself with this process.
Based on the NETS-T, what new learning goals will you set for yourself?
I am not ready to set any new learning goals for myself at this time. It seems that the more I research the more ideas I have pop in my head and I'm afraid if I take on too much I am going to be overwhelmed and lose focus.
If you are not ready to set new learning goals, how will you extend what you have learned so far?
It seems like each day that I get on the Internet to look on ePals or another website I am finding something else that I want to learn about. I want to take this summer to figure everything out and have everything ironed out and in place so that when the new school year begins I will have a plan in place and be ready to roll.
What learning approaches will you try next time to improve your learning?
I want to work on not getting side tracked. It seems like every website I look at has something else interesting that takes me off on another tangent. I need to work on staying focused on the one topic at hand. I do have a tendency to take on too much at one time and letting things fall by the wayside. I want to make sure that when I decide which way I decide to have my students communicate with another group is going to be ideal for everyone so that we can keep it up as promised throughout the year.

ReplyDeleteI too have been looking at the ePals website. I am also not sure exactly how many students I will have next year because the numbers always change. I do not want to pair with a class that is too large because I don't think my students will be able to handle having more than one buddy to correspond with at first. Good luck with your search!

ReplyDeleteI agree with you that once you start looking on the Internet, you find a million other things to look at and learn about. I am amazed at how side tracked I get when searching for something as simple as the weather. I feel getting side tracked is fine, as long as you can still get everything completed.
If you feel that you are taking on too much, maybe you should try a journal or reflection log (even though that would be adding another task into your already busy day). By reflecting on your feelings, you might find what to say "no" to and learn where all your energy and effort is going. I save some of my sticky note "to-do" lists and reflect on what still needs to get done, or how far I have come in a month or two. In addition, I feel a great sense of accomplishment when I look back at the knowledge I have gained in a short amount of time. I know this might sound silly, but it works for me (I love reflecting).

ReplyDeleteIt does sound like you have many great new ideas to bring to your classroom. I think you might find something like a concept map to fill in to guide you when you are searching for some things on the internet. It is easy to get side tracked because there is so much to see and do. If you have a list or map of the things to find out you may be able to stay on task for the searching of resources that you need. Also maybe setting a time limit of 5 minutes on extended sites could help you focus on the information needed.
